Relief for aging hands

Coral Gables News

Is it true that the FDA approved something for rejuvenating aging hands? I’m 65 years old and recently had a facelift. I love the way my face looks but my hands reveal the secrets. Please help me out!

You are correct. The FDA recently approved Radiesse for treatment of aging hands. While Radiesse is not new, the fact that the FDA has approved it gives physicians and patients greater confidence in using it.

For many years, Radiesse as a facial filler has enhanced the look of aging hands. In addition, fat grafting along with hyaluronic acid filler and Sculptra can improve their appearance. All help diminish a veiny appearance that occurs in aging hands.

Performed in an office visit, the procedure is relatively simple. A topical anesthetic cream is applied to the hand, the radius injected and the filling agent gently spreads throughout the hand. The patient’s hand may remain swollen for a day or two but generally, that subsides within three to four days.

Complications can include bruising, bleeding and an occasional granuloma. However, the procedure is well-tolerated and patients generally are pleased with the results. Hand skin also can be enhanced by laser treatment and spot removal. However, prevention of an aging look is always best aided by regular sunscreen applications.
