Reshma Mahtani, D.O., joins Miami Cancer Institute as Chief of Breast Medical Oncology

Board-certified medical oncologist Reshma Mahtani, D.O., joins Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health as the new chief of breast medical oncology. Dr. Mahtani specializes in the treatment and clinical research of breast cancer.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Mahtani to Miami Cancer Institute,” said Leonard Kalman, M.D., executive deputy director and chief medical officer at Miami Cancer Institute. “Her extensive clinical research experience and dedication to breast cancer care, in addition to her background in education, will make her an outstanding addition to our team.”

Prior to joining Miami Cancer Institute, Dr. Mahtani served as co-leader of the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center’s Breast Cancer Site Disease Group and achieved the rank of associate professor of medicine and was also the director of community outreach for the center.

Dr. Mahtani is an active clinical researcher, helping bring novel breast cancer treatments and clinical trials to patients in South Florida and beyond. She has made significant scientific and clinical practice contributions with numerous first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals. She is a nationally recognized thought leader in breast cancer and has presented her cancer research findings at cancer conferences worldwide. She has received funding from numerous organizations.

Dr. Mahtani served on national committees to recognize cancer clinics that offer quality care across the country. She is involved in several initiatives that enhance patients’ access to healthcare, as well as community collaborations for education and advocacy. She founded a medical education initiative to ensure that physicians in South Florida know about the latest cancer treatments and can provide evidence-based care.

Dr. Mahtani earned her medical degree from the University of New England. She completed both her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology/oncology at Saint Vincent’s Catholic Medical Center.

Dr. Mahtani will see patients at Baptist Health’s Wellness and Medical Complex in Plantation at 1228 S. Pine Island Road, Suite 410.
