Ariel Fernandez has been an active member of the Coral Gables community for more than 20 years, advocating for resident needs such as stopping overdevelopment, reducing crime, fixing the permitting process, and ensuring residents are the priority and not an afterthought. He is the editor of Gables Insider, informing residents of what is taking place in Coral Gables since 2019. An alumnus of Belen Jesuit Preparatory School and Florida International University. he also has served on numerous city, county and non-profit boards.
When asked what he would do in the first 100 days after being taking office he said, “In my first day as commissioner, I will work to address the numerous needs presented to me by residents throughout this campaign. I will fight for resident interests when it comes to development and seek that new projects are within the current Zoning Code. With our growing financial concerns, I will ask that an independent audit of city finances be conducted.
“I will work to find where the deficiencies are in our permitting process and ensure that the process is streamlined and resident friendly. I will work with our women and men in uniform to ensure that we have the adequate number of personnel on the streets so that we maintain our fast emergency response time. I will ensure that residents are the priority and not an afterthought. I will establish regular office hours to ensure residents have direct access to their commissioner.”
