The City of Coral Gables will soon say “arrivederci” to Venice in the Gables’ 33 eight-foot-tall replicas of Venetian mooring posts resembling the picturesque canal posts for the gondolas of Venice.
To commemorate the success of the temporary art exhibit, the City Beautiful will host a live auction and celebration on Friday, Sept. 28, 6-8 p.m., at the Coral Gables Museum Plaza, 285 Aragon Ave.
Guests are invited to participate in the auction of select Venetian posts designed and hand-painted by area artists. The auction will be conducted courtesy of Jim Gall, three-time Florida State Champion auctioneer with opening bids starting at $3,500 for posts that haven’t been purchased by a sponsor.
In addition to light bites and beverages, this is an opportunity to peruse a collection of these eye-catching posts in one location.
The installation has run through the summer months in the Gables and was supported by sponsors. The art posts were placed in public locations throughout Coral Gables to celebrate the new Streetscape project and downtown area.
