Artistic Director Patrick Dupre Quigley and the Seraphic Fire artists perform a crash course on the history of Western music in one lively evening with chorus, period keyboard instruments, and cello. The contrasts and connections between eras will be on full display: the stark simplicity of Medieval chant, the rich polyphony of the Renaissance, the ornate structure of the Baroque, the elegant balance of the Classical, the passionate intensity of the Romantic, and the creative ingenuity of the Contemporary.
Quigley explained his vision for the program: “One of the aspects that our patrons love about Seraphic Fire is our dedication to history and providing education for our audiences, so we thought ‘why not explore the entire breadth of music history, look at music through the different eras, and share the different types of music composed through time?’ This repertoire will provide the listener with a greater understanding about how this music fits into the larger history that surrounds it.”
