Slesnick elected president of College of Labor and Employment Lawyers

Don Slesnick, of the Law Offices of Slesnick & Casey in Coral Gables, recently was elected as president of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.

In 1996, Slesnick was inducted as Fellow and has served on the College’s Board of Governors for the past decade.

“Recognizing your peers for their work dignifies their dedication to the profession, and shows appreciation for their contribution to society,” said Slesnick, who will serve as president for the 2015 year.

The College is a professional organization which honors labor and employment lawyers, with more than 20 years of practice, who are nominated, vetted and elected to membership. The College’s motto is “Leadership for Greater Purpose,” and its programs focus on professionalism and civility in the practice of law. Currently, the College is comprised of approximately 1,300 Fellows from the United States and Canada.

Slesnick served as mayor of Coral Gables, 2001- 2011. He also served as the 2009-10 president of the Florida League of Mayors. Continuing as the managing partner for the law firm of Slesnick & Casey, he has been in private practice since 1976, representing public sector employee organizations. Prior to this he held management positions with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Miami-Dade County Police Department.

Don received a BA (Foreign Affairs) from the University of Virginia, a JD from the University of Florida and a MPA from Florida International University.
