South Motors INFINITI Q50 technology showcase.

The current INFINITI Q50 model family, like many historical INFINITI models, is a benchmark for automotive technology and an early glimpse at the future of autonomous driving.

INFINITI has always been a driving force in automotive technology. It was the first brand to introduce a laser-based digital rangefinder as the core of its ‘Intelligent Cruise Control’ system all the way back in 2001. Voice Recognition arrived in INFINITI models as early as 2002. Their backup camera was the first of its kind, also debuting in 2002 on the Q45 Sedan. Other industry-firsts include their 360-degree bird’s eye parking assistant ‘Around View Monitor’, electronically-controlled steering, lane departure warning and a forward collision prediction system that considers far more than the vehicle you are following.

So it is no surprise INFINITI is wholly embracing the innovative tech today that will become the fully-autonomous driving systems of tomorrow. Want a glimpse of the future of driving? The INFINITI Q50 models boast many innovative features that empower and support the driver and reveal just how sophisticated and aware our cars are becoming.

“INFINITI has introduced a number of world-first innovations through the Q50 in recent years. As INFINITI’s best-selling model, the Q50 has always embodied our commitment to make driver-empowering technologies accessible to a large number of customers. The new model will let customers benefit from the latest advances in active safety with our driver support technologies,” says Roland Krueger, President of INFINITI.

Drivers retain ultimate control over the INFINITI Q50, though. Its suite of available safety and support technology acts more as a copilot than a replacement for the driver, taking over the more onerous tasks like navigating stop-and-go traffic on a highway and monitoring the positions and behaviors of surrounding vehicles. Direct Adaptive Steering, a precursor to fully autonomous driving, provides the industry’s first fully-electronic control of the steering, allowing the Q50 heightened, instantaneous response to driver input and easy maneuverability. Active Lane Control keeps the Q50 safely in its lane. Intelligent Cruise Control keeps its speed and maintains the distance from the car ahead.

These three primary systems collaborate with many others – Distance Control Assist; Backup Collision Intervention; Blind Spot Warning and Intervention; Lane Departure Warning and Prevention; Forward Emergency Braking; and Predictive Forward Collision Warning – to lend the INFINITI Q50 family of models what is the brand and industry’s first bold step toward a vehicle that is fully capable of driving itself.

The INFINITI Q50 is a bestseller for the brand, which means these available intelligent driving systems can be had in a range of models boasting several grades of athleticism, with the beefy INFINITI Q50 Red Sport 400 with its 3.0-liter twin turbo V6 sitting proudly at the top. This new range of Q50’s and their suite of driver assistance systems debuted at the Geneva International Motor Show in March and will go on sale soon.
