Event chair Rita Tennyson promises a spectacular afternoon of food, entertainment, and bubbly with an opportunity to shop for that perfect gift for mom. The club is opening up both ballrooms, 1001 and 1009 E. Ponce de Leon Blvd. where guests will enjoy a “Sip and Shop” with lots of great gift items for purchase, unlimited bubbly, entertainment by UM’s Frost School of Music’s Purslane Trio, food, and, of course, tea variety of good teas.

Come celebrate with your daughters, moms, friends, and family and all for a great cause, Coral Gables Woman’s Club’s Children’s Dental Clinic, that provides free dental services to children of the working poor. In other club news, the GFWC Coco Plum Woman’s Club held its second annual Brunch & Broadway on Apr. 1 to a sold-out crowd raising more than $10,000 that will be directed to the club’s scholarship fund. Guests enjoyed listening to sounds of violinist Ronny Moreno and the FIU School of Music musicians play Broadway tunes.

Kudos to event chairs Charlene Feldner and Barbara Wexler and honorary event chair Renee Reichling representing the First National Bank of South Miami. The club received lots of support from other district clubs.

Among the many attending were Ruth Martinez, president of Coral Gables Woman’s Club; Miami Woman’s Club president Shirley Pardon with her first vice president Metris Batts and past president. Linda Joseph, and District 11 director Virginia Yermoli.

Yet another upcoming exciting May event is A Safe Haven for Newborns’ (ASHFN) sixth annual Tee Off for a Cause Golf Tournament. Save the date, Friday, May 19, and sign up for this great day at Trump National Doral Resorts Red Tiger golf course with a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

Golfers will enjoy a day on the links with open bar and food trucks on the course followed by a barbecue awards reception, silent auction and great prizes. To register and/or learn more about this amazing organization, visit asafehavenfornewborns.org.

For those not familiar with ASHFN, it was founded 22 years ago by Nick Silverio who works 24/7 at no salary to help mothers and expectant mothers in crisis. Recently, they welcomed the 370th baby that was lawfully left in the arms of caring firefighters at a Florida Fire Station.

Great music events are ongoing at the Coral Gables Woman’s Clubhouse in April. On Apr. 10, Carol Horkowitz, Arts chair for the Coral Gables Woman’s Club, coordinated another lovely evening of music at their clubhouse. The Frost School of Music’s Jason Charos Jazz Quartet performed for this mini fundraiser with proceeds going to Camp Boggy Creek and other outreach programs.

Following that, on Apr. 16, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority held a Groovin’ in the Gables Scholarship Brunch for the Pearls of Hope Foundation Inc. to fund its scholarship and mentorship programs. The affair was chaired by Rochelle Adger with Kristina Jackson as her co-chair.

The event featured an internationally acclaimed Red House Duo playing the best jazz, R&B and neo soul. Both Adger and Jackson as well as Pearls of Hope Foundation chair, Ann Pope, recently guests on Gloria’s Gab LIVE to talk about the event and their mission. Finally, Rotary Club of Coral Gables members and guests gathered at the offices of Miami’s Community Newspapers for a party celebrating Fifth Friday in March. Past RRCG president Sally Baumgartner coordinates this event whenever there are five Fridays in a month and members take turns providing the venue. Some 30 or more people enjoyed the evening and had a chance to meet publisher Michael Miller and tour the offices and video production studios . Among the many attending were RCCG past presidents: Carlos Bolado with wife Terri, Nicolas Eterovic, David Mitchell, Greg Martini, Yolanda Woodbridge, and Walter Alvarez. Among other were RCCG treasurer Bill Quesenberry with fiancee Chie Hoban, Aaron Glasser with Leslie, Lina Pinzon and mother Gloria, Larry Goodman, Henryka Manes, and Elisabetta Bell, to mention a few.

By the way, Gables Rotarians join forces with the Coral Gables Woman’s Club every fourth Tuesday for a game night mixer, 7-9 p.m., at Bay 13 across from the Hyatt Regency Coral Gables.

A graduate of the University of Florida with a major in Spanish, Burns has an extensive background in advertising, marketing and reciprocal trade, travel , non profit consulting and management. In other volunteer activity, Gloria helps Miami Christian School with fund-raising and PR; is an Ambassador and volunteers for events for A Safe Haven for Newborns. She is an active member of the Music Ministry at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church where she enjoys singing in the choir every weekend.
