Thousands will gather along Miracle Mile in Coral Gables on Sunday, Dec. 15, to view the 76th Junior Orange Bowl Holiday Parade. Tickets for the grandstands are on sale at the Junior Orange Bowl’s Eventbrite page but anyone can watch the parade for free by lining the streets along Miracle Mile in Downtown Coral Gables.
While the parade is one of the signature events, the parade is only one of numerous Junior Orange Bowl events taking place in the community during the next few months. While cross country just concluded with a thousand runners participating, coming up next is basketball, tennis and golf with dates for the disability games and creative writing plus more to be announced soon.
To thank city workers from police and fire to public works, the Jr. OB sponsored a breakfast at the police station for them all with Jr. OB members serving. UM’s new women’s basketball coach, Tricia Cullop, was on hand at the event with free basketball tickets for everyone.
Jr. Orange Bowl president Michael Green, who was a guest on Gloria’s Gab LIVE on Nov. 12, noted that this appreciation breakfast will become an annual event. For more information on the Jr. Orange Bowl events as well as sponsor and volunteer opportunities, visit jrorangebowl.org.
In other news, Profit Inc. members gathered at Thesis rooftop for a reception hosted Bay Plumbing’s Robert Beans and Daneza Socarras, of 1st Florida Mortgage Lending. Profit Inc. is one of the oldest networking groups in South Florida of which Beans was a past president and both have been longtime members and wanted to hold this holiday party for everyone.
Among the many enjoying the evening were Don and Maria Van Orsdel, Mike and Susan Sutta, Jerry Kavulich, Lawanda Loftus, Dr. Joe and Cathy Briggle, Iris and Will Sequi.
Those interested in historic homes won’t want to miss The Villagers 39th annual Home Tour on Saturday, Dec. 7. This year’s tour will feature historic homes in historic Shenandoah.
The Villager’s president, Kelley Schild, was a recent guest on my Gloria’s Gab LIVE podcast and spoke about the organization’s efforts to support the preservation and awareness of our community’s historic sites. Touring these homes every year is always a walk back in time and such fun.

Members of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club (CGWC) and many Rotarians participated in the Alzheimer’s Walk held on Nov. 17. Coral Gables Woman’s Cub (CGWC) also is supporting my favorite walk, the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bells Run, to take place at Tropical Park, on Dec. 14, at 9 a.m. CGWC member, Jessie Francisco and others are walking to memory of Jessie’s mom, Mireya Kilmon, who was a past president of the club and suffered with the disease from an early age. This is such fun walk with a perfect jolly Santa on hand and everyone dressed in holidays attire that always prompts many laughs. Also coming up in December, CGWC’s next Gringo Bingo will be on Dec. 10, 7 p.m., at Birdie Bistro (former location of Burger Bob’s on Granada Golf Course). Congratulations to Rita Tennyson on the restaurant’s ribbon cutting on Nov. 14 that attracted hundreds of loyal fans of this amazing entrepreneur who also is a fabulous caterer and dynamic member of the Coral Gables Woman’s Club.
