Coral Gables High senior Eleanor Harley is president of Twenty Little Working Girls, just as her sister was before. Both followed in the footsteps of their mother, who was president while in high school.

Harley has found a way to include the service club in her Creativity Action and Service project required by the International Baccalaureate program. For her project, she and her friends collected $5 gift cards to various fast food restaurants.

“We’ll be donating them to Touching Miami With Love,” she said.

The cards will be used as rewards for the children in the program. At the end of the collection period, the girls will go and spend time with the children.

Twenty Little Working Girls members volunteer at different places around the community, including Camillus House, feeding the homeless.

“We try to be a club that volunteers at many other events that we find throughout the community,” she said. “We raise a lot of money, so we can donate to the organizations that we’ve worked with throughout the year.”

Harley volunteers at Christ Journey Church in the elementary school program. Through the church she participated in a mission trip to Quito, Ecuador.

“We worked with a school that had kids from kindergarten to 10th grade, maybe even some older,” she said. “We taught them math, English, PE and Bible lessons.”

They also dug holes for the foundation of a school.

“It was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever had,” she said.

Harley is a member of the Gablettes dance team. She also is senior class treasurer and an Interact board member. In 2014 she chaired the

Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities for Interact. She even brought in her mom as a speaker. Her mom is a breast cancer survivor. “It was my freshman year.

It was very hard,” Harley said. “She’s been going strong ever since.”

Harley is applying to Troy University in Alabama and several Florida universities. She plans to major in early education.
