When his aunt needed help making a video for the Women’s Junior League of Miami, she called on Columbus High School junior Matthew Rembold. Rembold has been in the Columbus broadcast program since freshman year and he was able to put his filming and editing skills to work.

“They needed a video to show what they are doing throughout the year,” he said. “I came on board and filming various events so they could have a video. It’s being used as promotional material shown to donors.”

Rembold enjoys working on the videos.

“I get to experience events that they do,” he said. “It’s fun to go to all these places because they are places I don’t normally don’t go to.”

Places like The Kampong and a Halloween event at a transition home sponsored by the Junior League.

“They help women in need and families in need that were suffering from domestic abuse,” he said. “What I benefit from it is seeing these events and trying to get the word out about what they do.”

At school, he writes for the morning shows. One of the stories he developed dealt with the Downs Syndrome Association of Miami. This summer he plans on creating a promotional video for them. He not only does news but he also entertainment.

“I have a podcast on iTunes,” he said.

One podcast covers movies and films and the deals with comic books.

Rembold runs cross country and track, although he says he is on the track team in order to keep up his endurance for cross country.

His volunteer efforts extend to his classmates. He tutors them in English and works with those who need help writing essays. He also volunteers with Columbus’ youth group.

Rembold is a part of his school’s ministry and he is a lector at the Church of the Little Flower.

Next year, he will be sending college applications to Vanderbilt, UF and the UM. He’s interested in journalism and law.
