Symphonettes raise funds to support arts programs

By Lee Stephens….
Symphonettes, founded in 1966, is a community service club that actively volunteers at arts festivals and ushers at various concerts throughout the year.

This group is composed of high school girls from across Miami-Dade who dedicate their time to support the arts and increase arts awareness in the community. Members frequently work at Fairchild Tropical Gardens, Coral Gables Country Club and the University of Miami. In addition, they usher at concerts for the Miami Symphony Orchestra, St. Martha’s, Miami Children’s Chorus, and the Miami Civic Music Association, among others.

Every year, the club hosts a fall fundraiser, a spring garage sale, and an annual spring fashion show as a means to raise money for arts and music organizations. Last year alone, Symphonettes donated more than $20,000 to 10 different arts organizations, including the Miami Children’s Chorus, Greater Miami Youth Symphony and the Florida Youth Symphony.
