Amid an unprecedented level of activity in South Florida’s commercial and residential real estate markets, the University of Miami Law School’s Master of Laws in Real Property Development (UM-RPD) has named Thomas F. Nealon as director.

Nealon will oversee all aspects of the post-graduate program, which assists recent law school graduates and practitioners interested in furthering their expertise in real estate development.

The UM-RPD Advisory Board also is expanding with the following real estate professionals joining: Rocio Budetta, partner and managing director at Newland Capital Group; Carolina Herrera, vice president of Land Acquisition at Lennar Homes, and Hugo Arza, partner at Holland & Knight.

The expansion of the advisory board coincides with the continued growth of the UM-RPD program, which recently was recognized as the top LLM program for real estate law. With enrollment options available both on campus and through a distance learning option, the program attracts recent law school graduates and practitioners from across the country and internationally who are looking to build their practice.

Nealon brings nearly five decades of experience and has taught in the UM-RPD program since 1996. Previously, he served as president and CEO for the American Liver Foundation (ALF). He is the former vice chair and director of Legal Affairs for LNR Partners, LLC, the largest special servicer in the commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) industry.

“The University of Miami School of Law is one of only a handful of schools nationwide that offers a Real Property Development LLM degree. Students in the program learn from some of the best real estate minds in the business in one of the most thriving markets in the country.” Nealon said. “The advisory board works closely with the RPD Program to provide students with access to mentorship and internship/job opportunities, further enhancing the value the program provides for students.”

The 25-member RPD Advisory Board is comprised of professionals who touch all facets of real estate, including members of prominent law firms, major real estate companies, banking and financial services, developers, brokerage, architecture, design, title insurance and construction.

Members of the UM-RPD advisory board play an active role in assisting the program with hands-on educational opportunities for students, creating a seamless experience between the program and careers in real property development and real estate law.
