The 13th annual University of Miami Sports Hall of Fame & Museum (UMSHoF&M) Celebrity Bowling Tournament, presented by Guerra Financial Group and hosted by “Mr. Basketball” Steve Edwards took place on Monday, Feb. 26, at Kings Dining & Entertainment Center in Doral. The event, which raised funds for the UMSHoF&M and The Home Team, was a big success.

Among the 18 Hall of Fame members in attendance were the host Steve Edwards, current UM baseball coach JD Arteaga, Mike Pagliarulo, Javy Rodriguez, David Gil, Kevin Brown, Eric Brown, Albert Bentley, Jodi Applebaum-Steinbauer, HoF president Coach Mike Ward, Vinny Scavo, Rick Remmert, Julie Cohen and Wayne Beckner.

The winning team was a “satellite” team that bowled in Denver, CO and featured Hall of Fame members K.C. Jones and Aaron Moser, along with former Cane Darren Krein.
Miami-Dade County commissioner, and former Doral Mayor, JC Bermudez presented Edwards with a proclamation from the county recognizing his outstanding career as both a Miami Hurricane and his stellar high school career at Miami High.

The event featured a live auction of a 2023 Miami Basketball Final Four ring, donated by UMSHoF&M member Wayne Beckner and Herff Jones. The bidding was so lively it reached $4,000, and the ring company agreed to donate three rings, garnering $12,000 for the auction alone. A silent auction with more than 25 pieces of memorabilia helped raise funds, too. A portion of the proceeds will benefit The Home Team, a non-profit that provides after-school and youth development programs that is run by former Hurricane football player Alex Pou.

The bowling tournament is the brainchild of chair and former president of the UMSHoF&M Gerard Loisel who oversees a committee of volunteers. This year, Guerra Financial Group was the presenting sponsor.
