Vets remembered, volunteers at MIA Hospitality Lounge receive thanks
Angel Rodriguez, Military Hospitality Lounge president and executive director, addresses volunteers at Appreciation Dinner held in December at Seasons 52.

During the holidays, veterans who have passed as well as active and retired military are remembered. Yolanda Woodbridge, a Coco Plum Woman’s Club member and Coral Gables Rotarian who volunteers every week at Miami International Airport’s Military Hospitality Lounge, was one of many Coco Plum Woman’s Club members accompanied by their president, Annie Goodrich Sorgie, who visited the Veterans Cemetery during the holidays to lay wreaths at the graves.

For Woodbridge, this is just one of many ways she lends her support to veterans including having volunteered for years at the VA Hospital where her Rotary Club holds monthly bingo games for the veterans.

Woodbridge was one of 20 or more MIA Military Hospitality Lounge volunteers attending an appreciation dinner at Seasons 52 on Dec. 18. That evening, Angel Rodriguez, Miami International Airport’s Military Hospitality Lounge president and executive director, welcomed everyone and thanked them for their service, stressing the importance of their time and the need for more volunteers. Ideal volunteers are retired military, police or firefighters.

The lounge is open seven days a week and is located on the second level of Terminal E. It provides a place for travelers to rest, grab some snacks, and freshen up on long trips.

Volunteering at the lounge is easy and fun with free parking at the employees’ lot with a shuttle that takes you right to the terminal. Your job is greeting visitors, checking IDs, offering a friendly smile, and helping with incidentals, restocking snacks and keeping things tidy. The lounge is opened from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Additional volunteers may enable the lounge to extend those hours.
