Villagers invite community on a Magical History TourThe Villagers turn back the clock to the 1960s with a Magical History Tour in celebration of the organization’s 60th anniversary. On Saturday, Apr. 18, history buffs and hip guests have the option to attend the tour or the party, or combine the two.

All festivities will begin and end at the 100-year-old Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Blvd. Bus tour check in begins at 3:30 p.m., for the two-and-one-half-hour trip showcasing Villagers’ historic preservation success stories. The Villager member-led tour will travel among 30-plus sites, with at least one stop along the way.

From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., party-goers will groove to live ’60s tunes and nibble elevated retro treats. Guests can score some special surprises and far-out finds at the silent and live auctions.

In keeping with the anniversary theme, tickets are just $60 for each portion of this adults-only event (that’s $120 for the whole scene).

Co-chairs Gina Guilford, Kelley Schild, Sweet Pea Ellman, and Lilian Walby lead the 60th Anniversary Committee with members Christian Armstrong, Julia Frow, Jane Holguin, Bonnie Hutton, Joanne Meagher, Jeanine Watkin and Ann Ryan.

“We stopped the clock on our treasured sites being destroyed – starting in 1966,” said Gina Guilford. “It’s time to take a breath and celebrate the history we’ve been able to help protect.”

The Villagers have been a leading force in local historic preservation, having awarded more than 275 grants to over 90 organizations, including the Douglas Entrance, Coral Gables Congregational Church, Miracle Theatre, Biltmore Hotel, Warner House, Gesu Church, Kampong, Vizcaya, Black Police Precinct, Merrick House, Miami River Inn, Dade County Courthouse, Scottish Rite Temple, Old Miami High, Pinewood Cemetery, Barnacle and Doc Thomas House.

Through restoration, education, advocacy, and fundraising, The Villagers safeguard the cultural and architectural heritage that shapes the Miami-Dade communities. Visit www.thevillagersinc.org.
