Vizcaya Museum and Gardens’ Contemporary Arts Program (CAP) has commissioned seven local artists – Felecia Carlisle, Adler Guerrier, Brookhart Jonquil, Jillian Mayer, Emmett Moore, Christina Peterson and Magnus Sigurdarson – to create site-specific work inspired by Vizcaya for a one night event. The project will also feature select works created by MFA candidates from Florida International University’s College of Architecture + The Arts. Vizcaya-fy of Bust! is taking place on Saturday, December 6, from 8:00–11:00 p.m. The event is by invitation only. Vizcaya-fy becomes a verb for the notion of rewriting history. Vizcaya’s creators liberally appropriated (borrowed pre-existing forms or images to form a new art work) objects, images and ideas during the creation of the estate resulting in themes of originality, authorship, authenticity, pastiche, eclecticism and identity. The projects will reflect the theme of appropriation and adaptation. These themes are also integral to Miami, begging the question: is Vizcaya so Miami or is Miami so Vizcaya?
