Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Voices for Children supporters enjoyed an amazing evening at on June 22, partnering with the Heat Foundation to bring back its Party for a Cause fundraiser.

The affair, held at the Kaseya Center, was hosted by Stuart Fort, Sophia Baker and Victor Pulido, bringing together emerging philanthropists for a night filled with dancing, cocktails and delicious bites with proceeds benefitting critically needed support and advocacy for abused, abandoned, and neglected children in Miami-Dade’s foster care system.

Kudos to Voices for Children’s CEO Kadie Black, chair Kira Grossman, and the board for guiding and supporting this important work. The next day, another exciting event took place at the Marlins’ loanDepot Park where the godparent of the new Norwegian Cruise Line ship Viva was revealed. NCL’s new ship Viva, the sister ship of the state-of-the-art Prima, that launched last year, will sail out of Puerto Rico. The choice for the ship’s godfather was perfect, Luis Fonsi. Fonsi, born in San Juan, PR in 1978, is a renowned singer, songwriter and actor best known for Despacito.

That song alone won him numerous Latin Grammy and Billboard Awards and broke six Guinness World Records and sold more than 11 million records. This hot Latin star was on hand for the reveal to the delight of the invited guests gathered for the event on the Marlins field. Fonsi will be performing for Viva’s christening in Miami this year before the reposition of the ship to Puerto Rico.

Prior to coming to Miami, the ship is sailing some inaugural cruises out of Lisbon, Portugal until the 11-night transatlantic voyage departing from Lisbon on Nov. 16 and arriving in Miami on Nov. 27, ready for the naming on Nov. 28.

Speaking of the Marlins — there will be a Youth Fair Day at loanDepot Park on Sunday, July 30, at 1:40 p.m., when the Marlins take on the Detroit Tigers. A portion of each ticket will benefit the Miami-Dade County Fair Foundatio, Inc.

There always is something happening at The Fair and increasing awareness for the foundation is high on the list for Dr. Claudia Uribe-Orrett, director of Community Engagement & Development who was a recent guest of Gloria’s Gab LIVE. If you have not been to The Fair in a while or to the many events held there during the year, check out this show at our website at https://communitynewspapers.com/videos-2/glorias-gab-host-gloria-burns-talks-with-dr-claudia-uribe-orrett/ or on Facebook at https://fb.watch/lqHg8X0q59/.

On the cultural scene, Miami’s own Ivan Luiz Hernandez launched his new book, Isla Vulnerable, at the Actors’ Playhouse at the Miracle Theatre in Coral Gables on June 15. The book was an Amazon Instant Best Seller and is a dramatized account of Ivan’s father’s remarkable life as a U.S. spy in the 1960s, and is based on real, fascinating events. In fact, his father, Ezequiel “Red” Hernandez, as well as historical researcher and story consultant Victoria Peteli of Wise Ink Publishing were on hand for the evening that included a cocktail hour, book signing, and the featured attraction, a conversation with Ivan, Ezequiel and Victoria, hosted by Miami psychologist Dr. Michelle Gonzalez.

Ezequiel “Red” Hernandez was only 18 when he was recruited into a CIA paramilitary unit, the Comandos Mambises, alongside other Cuban exiles and is its only known survivor of his covert CIA unit. Isla Vulnerable is a must-read book now available at Books & Books and on Amazon. You can watch the trailer and find out more at ivanluizhernandez.com/books.
Until next time, share your talents, count your blessings, be kind and make a difference.
