The Coral Gables Woman’s Club was represented at the 100th anniversary celebration at Royal Palm Park on Nov. 17.

More than 50 women from the General Federation of Women’s Clubs were on hand, including former Coral Gables Mayor and past CGWC president Dorothy Thomson, Mary Ann Etkin, Janet Osgood and Ruth Martinez.

Florida Federation of Women’s Clubs president Mary Powell spoke at the celebration highlighting the wonderful work done by the Federation of Woman’s Clubs in getting legislation passed and founding the park, now part of Everglades National Park, 100 years ago. The women were pioneers, strong in their convictions of what they were doing and made it happen.

Among the many speakers at the event were Leslie Kemp Poole, Florida National Park director, professor at Rollins College and author.
