You’ll be hard pressed to top the Audi A7's luxury

The 2019 Audi A7 is as pretty as it is fast as it is luxurious as it is useful. More practical and more elegant than the A6 sedan, the Audi A7 Quattro drives better than ever and takes on next-level technology.

It is the second generation of a car that set a high-water mark for performance and design. Updated this year with a stronger, lighter structure helps it drive better than ever, the A7 offers a powerful engine, and a new two-screen infotainment system highlights the high-quality interior.

The 2019 Audi A7 costs at least $69,000 and is offered in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trim levels. All cars are gifted with exemplary materials, inside and out. I got my hands on the range-topping Prestige and took it for a ride. Topping off at $85,240, I have to say, this car was it!

With the 2019 update, Audi designers didn’t fix what wasn’t broken. The design uses the same basic shape as the outgoing model, but some of the details have changed. The grille up front sits lower and wider, and sharper creases highlight the car’s lines, with the lower character line and rear haunches noticeably more prominent. The hood gets lines of its own for the first time, and the rear end now features a taillight graphic that runs the width of the car.

Now, while all A7s are powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 (335 horsepower, 369 pound-feet of torque), they also all share a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic, as the only transmission offered. Audi’s Quattro Ultra all-wheel-drive system also is standard across the board.

Standard features on the Premium and Plus trim levels carry right through to the Prestige, basics like 19-inch wheels, LED headlights, heated and auto-dimming mirrors, a panoramic sunroof, automatic wipers, front- and rear-parking sensors, a power-opening rear hatch, keyless entry and ignition, selectable drive modes, frontal-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, tri-zone automatic climate control, leather upholstery, power-adjustable heated front seats, driver-seat memory settings and 40/20/40-split folding rear seats.

On the tech side, you also get four USB ports, a universal garage door opener, Audi Connect Plus (emergency telematics, vehicle monitoring, advanced map functions and a Wi-Fi hotspot), a navigation system, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The range-topping Prestige model comes all of the above, along with automatic high beams, a virtual instrument panel, a larger 10.1-inch main touchscreen, a surround-view camera, enhanced voice controls, contrasting interior stitching, and a 16-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio upgrade.

This Prestige also offers the Warm Weather package, which, by virtue of its name, may not sound necessary when driving the hot streets of Miami, but it does include some nice features such as quad-zone automatic climate control, rear window sunshades, and ventilated front seats. You’re also going to love upgraded laser headlights, soft-close doors, a head-up display, multicolor ambient interior lighting, and dual-pane acoustic glass.

The EPA rates fuel economy at 22 miles per gallon in the city and 29 highway.

This newest version of the A7 provides plenty of gusto for most driving situations, and its poised handling helps make it a worthy long-haul cruiser. Add to this luxurious interior, and you’ve got one of the best choices in the market for large-luxury-sedan shoppers.
