Beat the COVID-19 blues with free virtual concert

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Enjoy an antidote to the COVID-19 blues — a free concert of superbly lyrical pieces for voices and various instruments.

Members of the Alhambra Orchestra, conducted by Daniel Andai, have joined with Miami Collegium Musicum to perform Schubert’s famous Mass in G and a rarely heard choral gem by Beethoven titled Eligischer Gesang. The concert video also features two melodic pieces for oboe and piano, plus the orchestra’s string ensemble performing Fantasia on Greensleeves by Ralph Vaughan Williams with flute and harp, and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Music of the Night featuring Concertmaster Rand Bella as violin soloist. All works are newly recorded, with COVID precautions.

The Alhambra Orchestra is Miami’s community orchestra, dedicated to promoting live classical performances and music education. Miami Collegium Musicum is an elite adult choir directed by Dr. Donald Oglesby, with a wide repertoire ranging from baroque masterworks to new commissions. They are grateful to the City of Coral Gables for sponsoring this project.

Free video premiere is Sunday, Apr. 25, at 7:30 p.m. at www.alhambraorchestra.org/youtube, or watch later if you miss the premiere.
