The South Florida Youth Symphony’s (SFYS.org) recent unique indoor-outdoor concert at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden was a rousing success with the community, with a standing-room-only crowd inside the Garden House.

“This was a great event in a fantastic venue,” said Marjorie Hahn, SFYS executive and music director. “The audiences — both inside and outside — enjoyed the performance.”

Inside the Garden House, people filled all 250 seats and outside another three dozen families gathered in the idyllic Fairchild setting — with the doors to the Garden House open — to listen to the Emmy Award-winning SFYS play a variety of crowd favorites.

The event was sponsored by Fairchild and the Kiwanis Club of Homestead-South Dade, one of South Florida’s most active community service organizations. As part of its sponsorship, several children from South Dade schools attended the concert.

“This was a fantastic experience for our students,” said Julia Jakkel, grade K-5 general music teacher at Charter School at Waterstone. “For them to be exposed to this type of music, played by these young, talented musicians, is inspiring.”
