Area Stage Company presents : Green Day’s American Idiot

Area Stage Company is set to present an invigorating, original conservatory production of Green Day’s American Idiot, directed by the prolific John Rodaz, the troupe’s founder and artistic director.

Winner of the Silver Palm Award for his direction of Cabaret and An Octoroon last year, Rodaz has his sights set on a story that is progressive, relatable, and conscious of the perspectives of American youth culture today.

He, along with a cast of budding young actors from ASC’s renowned performing arts conservatory, hopes to connect with audience members through the rebellious, passionate spirit of Green Day’s music. Rodaz is regarded as “one of South Florida’s best and most creative directors,” according to Christine Dolen, writer of The Miami Herald. The accomplished production team also includes choreographer Rebecca Ashton as well as musical director Rick Kaydas.

The production will feature the music of the multi-platinum, Grammy winning punk-rock band Green Day — specifically their seventh studio album American Idiot.

The musical, written by Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong and Michael Mayer, the show’s original director, tells the story of three childhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world. The score includes the hit singles Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Holiday, and the title track American Idiot.

The Area Stage Company Conservatory’s production of Green Day’s American Idiot will be performed Mar. 8-24, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m., Sundays at 5 p.m., at the Area Stage Company, 1560 S. Dixie Hwy., Coral Gables.

Tickets are available at the door and online. Adults are $25 and children/students, $15. Please call 305-666-2078 or visit at areastagecompany.com.
