Junior Orange Bowl Committee receives Premio Binchi in Italy

By John Maxsween….
The Junior Orange Bowl Committee (JOBC) was recognized in Teramo, Italy during June for its outstanding efforts in promoting high-level athletic competition involving youths from around world.

The JOBC was awarded the Premio Binchi (Giorgio Binchi International Prize), named in honor of the late Giorgio Binchi who believed commitment and dedication to sports was an essential tool to overcoming cultural barriers. Dr. Stefano S. Sardi of the Italian Golf Federation, partner of the Junior Orange Bowl Committee, accepted the award on behalf of the JOBC.

The award, which is divided into two categories — Section A and Section B — is distributed every two years. Section A is reserved for groups and organizations with special merits in promoting and inventiveness of all sports, while Section B is reserved for sports bodies and institutions that enhance the social and educational function of sports.

The Junior Orange Bowl Committee, nominated for Section A, was chosen over 78 other finalists by the selection board, which was comprised of a panel of individuals involved in the fields of sports, journalism, and culture.

The Junior Orange Bowl Festival is made possible with the support of the City of Coral Gables, Miami Children’s Hospital, Orange Bowl Committee, Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs, Cultural Affairs Council, Miami-Dade County Tourist Development Council, Miami-Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners.

The JOBC Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that serves the community of South Florida and the youth of the world by providing opportunities for wholesome, competitive and multi-cultural experiences.
