Miami native returns home to promote her new novel

By Kay Mitchell….

Lauren Brown

Miami native Lauren Brown, author and former Miami Herald Silver Knight nominee, will be promoting her new middle grade novel at Books and Books, 265 Aragon Ave. in Coral Gables, on Dec. 12 at 3 p.m. She also will also be doing several school events on Dec. 9 and 10.

A pop culture expert, Brown has written several Hollywood bios including Reese Witherspoon: The Biography. She has worked at CosmoGIRL, Us Weekly and MTV. Today she contributes regularly to Radar Online and Cosmogirl.com.

In addition to being able to draw a crowd as a Miami native with many family and friends still in the area, Brown also is a great media personality, and has been featured as a guest expert on the A&E biography of Lindsay Lohan and in a piece on freelancers on W-ABC 7 in New York.

Her interviews with teen celebrities from shows such as Pretty Little Liars, Victorious!, and The Secret Life Of An American Teenager is a very popular topic at her events.

Brown had a lot of inspiration for writing Doggy Divas. After a big falling out in junior high she was exiled from the “popular group” and was forced to start over and connect with other “outcasts” who turned out to be loyal friends and far more fun than the popular girls.

Then a few years ago she adopted a sweet and loving dog who changed her life. As this pooch helped Lauren get through what she calls an “interesting” period, the experience helped her realize how deeply valuable our relationship with our pets is, and how they can change our lives.

The first in a new feel-good friendship series, The Doggy Divas: Roxy’s Rules ($6.99, Juvenile Fiction/Middle Grade; Sourcebooks Jabberwocky; ages 9-12) blends earnestness with good-natured acerbity and snark.

On the outs with the in girls at school, Roxy is looking for a distraction. A neighborhood pet-care crisis inspires Roxy to recruit fellow dog-lovers Kim and Georgia to open their own dog-walking business. Will Roxy be able to overcome her lack of popularity and click with her new partners? And will her crush, Matt, finally notice she exists?

In a unique and riotously fun twist, the reader gets a peek at what the dogs have to say about it, too!
