New Jr. Orange Bowl president inducted at board installation

Junior Orange Bowl Committee members and guests gathered on Mar. 21 at The CocoPlum Woman’s Club for the Junior Orange Bowl Board Installation.

Moe than 80 people were in attendance for the cocktail chic event to see the incoming president and elected board of directors get inducted into their new respective roles, honor the outgoing JOBC president Frandley DeFilie and recognize the members and sponsors who make the Junior Orange Bowl outstanding.

Isa Goenaga, a long-standing member of the Junior Orange Bowl with a passion to lead the organization to success, was inducted as the 49th president of the Junior Orange Bowl Committee.

DeFilie presented Khalil Madani and Lucy Foerster with the James Charlton Outstanding Service Award, which is given annually to the Volunteer of the year who exemplifies leadership. Madani was inducted as secretary of the Junior Orange Bowl Board of Directors and also will serve as the chair of the Robotics Committee for the 2019-20 festival season. Foerster, executive director of the Woody Foundation, serves as chair for the Sports Ability Games, an inspirational three-day series of athletic events for young adaptive athletes.

DeFilie also honored husband and wife Jodi Steinbauer (JOBC Tennis Tournament director) and J.R. Steinbauer (JOBC Golf Championship irector) with this year’s Community Impact Award. For over 35 years, a Steinbauer has been involved with the Junior Orange Bowl — the two of them have been an inspiration through their spirit, dedication to volunteerism, and make a true measurable impact on the South Florida Community.

Abby Dresnick and Cathy Nordlund, co-chair and tournament coordinator of the 58th Junior Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship, made a special presentation to various organizations who support the Junior Orange Bowl and are a philanthropic staple in the community. Dresnick and Nordlund honored Nicklaus Children’s Hospital as the Sports Health Sponsor for the 2018-19 Tennis Championship, as well as University of Miami, Here’s Help and Badia Spices.

Orange Bowl Committee president-elect Jeff Rubin swore in the board of directors for the 2019-20 Festival Season, which included Goenaga, DeFilie, Steven Gonzalez (president-elect), Luis Quinones (vice president), Aldo Castaneda (vice president), Samantha Jones (treasurer), Khalil Madani (secretary), Grant Souviron (director), and Marti Bueso (director).
