This family was pleasantly surprised by Coral Gables Police officers who were distributing gift cards from an anonymous donor.

Many unsuspecting people were happy to be stopped by officers of the Coral Gables Police Department recently. They were not issued a traffic ticket or reprimanded for jaywalking; instead they were pleasantly surprised by a random act of kindness.

In the spirit of the holiday season, a long-standing member of the Coral Gables community approached the Coral Gables Police Department to assist in the generous distribution of $100 gift cards to be given to needy individuals in and around the City of Coral Gables. The gift cards were donated and the donor asked to remain anonymous.

“With the full support of our new city manager we were able to extend the holiday spirit on behalf of the anonymous Santa,” said Interim Police Chief Ed Hudak. “The hardest part was to contain the emotion of seeing so many smiles of the elderly and children in need, the victims of crime, and anyone deserving of a random act of kindness during this special time of the year.”

Invigorated CGPD officers went to work distributing the gift cards at traffic stops and bus stops. The officers also went to victims’ homes, families in need and to others facing times of hardship. All gift cards were distributed by Dec. 25.
