The Ponce Society of Young Professionals teamed up once again with Coral Gables Senior High for a “Dress Shirt and Tie Drive” happy hour to benefit Cavalier football players. The event took place on Thursday, Aug. 8, at La Taberna Giralda in Coral Gables.

Guests piled their shirt and tie donations high by the front door of La Taberna Giralda, and then enjoyed free sangria and tapas plus a traditional flamenco show.

Over 175 shirts and too many ties to count were delivered to the team on Saturday, Aug. 17, at a pizza party thrown by the Ponce Society for the Gables High players.

“It was great to see the outpouring of support and how appreciative the players were for a second year in a row,” said Ponce Society chair Amanda Bonifay

“The shirt and tie drive is a tradition that the Ponce Society hopes to keep going for a long time.” The shirt and tie drive was sponsored by Dade Medical College, La Taberna Giralda, and the Coral Gables La Salle Cleaners.

The Ponce Society of Young Professionals was founded in October 2011 as the young professionals outreach of the Coral Gables Community Foundation joining its mission to that of the foundation: To foster programs and initiatives that enhance the quality of life for people living and working in The City Beautiful. A self-governing committee was assembled with the purpose of supporting the foundation in carrying out its mission, and in getting more young professionals involved in foundation initiatives and activities.
