Relay for Life of East Kendall participants and supporters raise money to fight cancer.

The American Cancer Society’s recent Relay for Life of East Kendall was a success with more than 5,000 people participating in the fun-filled survivors’ celebration and relay-style walk around Baptist Hospital’s lake.

Miami Cancer Institute, part of Baptist Health, hosted the event and 270 cancer survivors were honored as guests. Nearly 6,000 personalized and decorated luminarias were lit to remember those lost to cancer and to honor those fighting the disease. The event raised nearly $295,000 for the Society’s research, education and patient services and money is still being raised.

“Many thanks to our Relay committee members, volunteers, physicians, employees and their families and friends who participated in the event and worked so hard to raise funds,” said Leonard Kalman, MD, deputy director, Miami Cancer Institute.

This was the 10th consecutive year the event took place at Baptist Hospital.
