Branches, a local nonprofit organization based in Miami providing life-changing opportunities to help families and their children break the cycle of poverty, was selected as a Project Innovation Grantee by Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation this past year.
Branches’ Climb to College & Career youth program was chosen to receive $30,000 from the foundation which falls under the Youth Education and Empowerment category. Since receiving the grant, Branches has been able to serve and continue serving its youth throughout the pandemic and now support 42 current college students, all first generation.
The Climb to College & Career (CtC&C) program serves over 200 middle and high school students at all three Branches locations throughout Miami-Dade afterschool and in the evenings. The program specifically focuses on postsecondary success and helps to prepare and assist students to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviors necessary for that next step after high school.
Climb to College & Career provides a series of workshops, college tours, financial education, mentoring and more. Students also will be eligible for a Climb thru College & Career Scholarship designed as an incentive and a reinforcement toward successful pursuit of becoming a postsecondary graduate by providing support for incidentals such as a laptop, books, laundry, etc. Branches currently supports 43 college students and is proud to walk with them on their journey.
