During the June Special Council presentation, Homestead Councilmember Patricia Fairclough-Staggers presented an award to Jonya Moore, a recent graduate from South Dade Senior High School.

Moore always dreamed of attending law school and becoming a lawyer. With that goal in mind, she studied hard, applied herself, and graduated in the top 5 percent of her class.

Not only did she work hard to achieve a weighted GPA of 3.9, but she also was part of many clubs in school such as the Student Government Association, Law Club, National Honor Society, Math Honor Society, and Science Honor Society. She also was a cheerleader and was named prom queen at her school.

“This is a strong young lady, who is going to move onto be a fierce woman in our community,” said Councilmember Fairclough-Staggers, “I hope that she continues to dream big and knows that she is unstoppable.”

Outside of school she continued to push the limits and helped with Miami-Dade County School Board member Luisa Santos’ social media accounts all while applying for and earning scholarships to help her go to college. Jonya Moore’s mother accepted the award and recognition on her behalf. She could not be present as she was accepted and is currently at the University of Florida where she is preparing for her pre-law degree in the Fall.
