The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) has completed the Krome Avenue Truck Bypass and use of the bypass route is being enforced by local law enforcement.

The much-anticipated Truck Bypass will remove heavy truck traffic from Homestead’s Historic Downtown District and contribute to an overall quieter and more pleasant pedestrian experience.

The project limits extend from west of SR 997/Krome Avenue to east of SR 5/US1 along SW 312th Street/Campbell Drive, SW 336th Street/Davis Parkway and SR 9336/Palm Drive in the cities of Homestead and Florida City. The purpose of the project is to provide a truck bypass facility and redirect truck traffic from Krome Avenue to US 1.

The Homestead Police Department was issuing warnings to truck traffic violating the bypass requirement, but beginning Wednesday, Nov. 24, trucks not utilizing the bypass were issued a uniform traffic citation.
