The Miami-Dade County Commission on May 18 approved a resolution sponsored by Commissioner Kionne L. McGhee to rename Goulds Park as “JL (Joe) and Enid W. Demps Park.”

Joe and Enid Demps are known in the District 9 community for their efforts, in partnership with then Commissioner Dennis C. Moss, to establish the Greater Goulds Optimist Club. The Greater Goulds Optimist Club offers football and cheerleading programs to serve the youth in the community.

Both Joe and Enid Demps have held numerous volunteer leadership roles and are both Southeast Region Pop Warner Pioneers. They have both dedicated many years of service to the community and have focused on youth engagement.

“These are the leaders that we must recognize for their lifetime efforts and service to our communities. Without their contributions our children, families and entire communities would be lost,” Commissioner McGhee said.
