Construction will begin soon on a new 12-classroom addition project at West Homestead K-8 Center after the Miami-Dade School Board awarded the construction contract to Veitia Padron Inc. to complete the General Obligation Bond (GOB) project valued at approximately $4.7 million.

Located in Homestead, the existing school was built in 1959 with additions constructed afterwards and currently comprises 10 permanent buildings on 14 acres. The facility has a permanent capacity of 774 student stations and will have a total of 990 student stations upon completion. The project will provide for an additional 20 parking spaces, expanding the school’s parking lot, and include a new covered walkway connecting the new structure to the main building.

The project is scheduled to be completed by August 2022.

Veitia Padron will use a total Sub-Consultant Small/Micro Business Enterprise (S/MBE) participation of 15.56 percent and Minority/Women Business Enterprises (M/WBE) participation of 20.20 percent.

Voters overwhelmingly approved the GOB in 2012 to renovate, remodel and replace schools; expand student capacity; enhance safety, and provide technology upgrades.
