The South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center (SMDCAC) begins its live summer series with two new performances of Generations of Genius from resident ballet troupe Dimensions Dance Theatre of Miami.
The program, choreographed by three generations of dynamic artists, features a variety of thrilling new pieces. Making its Miami premiere, Around Midnight is a high-energy, neoclassic ballet piece choreographed by Yanis Eric Pikieris with music by Erno Dohnanyi.
The Four Seasons is a captivating number by seasoned DDTM choreographer Yanis Pikieris Sr. to the music of Antonia Vivaldi. Touch Me is an intense male solo created to gospel music by American choreographic icon and artistic director of The Joffrey Ballet, the late Gerald Arpino.
The performances are Saturday, July 17, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, July 18, at 3 p.m. The performance is recommended for ages 7 and older and runs about 120 minutes with one intermission. Tickets range from $25 to $45.
The 2021 Summer Series runs through September and includes: Allan Harris: Kate’s Soul Food, Sara Juli’s Burnt-Out Wife, Duane Eubanks Quintet, Do It Again featuring the music of Steely Dan, One Night of Queen, Nicole Henry: The Music of Whitney Houston, Adele Myers and Dancers with special guest Sarasota Contemporary Dance Company, and Boney James: SOLID.
All summer programs through September are being sold implementing socially distant indoor seating. The center requires anyone not included in your ticket purchase to be located three feet apart from your seats. CDC guidelines recommend all unvaccinated people continue to wear face coverings when attending indoor events at all times. SMDCAC appreciates, for the safety of our guests and staff, that ALL patrons wear face coverings when attending events. Should the guidelines change with regard to social distancing or mask wearing prior to the scheduled performance, to allow for reduced separation of audience, the venue retains the right to sell additional seats within the thre-foot parameter in accordance with updated or rescinded guidelines. SMDCAC will notify ticket holders via email should any changes occur.
The following additional measures are being taken for guest and staff safety:
Reduced audience capacity;
Hand sanitizer stations have been located at all entryways and high traffic areas;
Floor marking to assist in maintaining social distancing;
Staff training conducted in advance on CDC and Miami-Dade County Covid-19 related protocols and procedures;
Enhanced cleaning procedures including disinfecting all high-touch surfaces;
Touchless faucets, soap dispensers, and paper towel dispensers have been installed where possible;
Open lid garbage and recycle bins are in place, and
Temporary reduction or elimination of concessions.
The SMDCAC Box Office currently is open for phone sales and inquiries Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. through 5 p.m., and can be reached at 786-573-5300 or boxoffice@smdcac.org.
