Town announces improvements to Community Development Dept.
Jared Munster, Community Development director

The Town of Cutler Bay has announced that it is making improvements in the Community Development Department, which includes the Building Division, Code Compliance Division and Planning and Zoning Division.

Improvements that are in the works include:
● Greater efficiency in costs for services provided;
● New, clearer forms;
● New software, electronic plan processing and online payments, and
● Additional code compliance officer (already in place).

Community Development director Jared Munster explained.

“In the Building Division we’re going to be transitioning vendors,” Munster said. “Our Building Division is mainly run by contracted employees to the town. That helps keep costs down while we’re continuing to serve you. So what we’re looking to change is going from a percentage of fees model to an hourly billing model. That will help us control costs to provide better services.”

Munster also said that the town is hiring an additional code compliance officer to work in the evenings and on weekends and who can be reached at those times. They also are improving the forms to make them easier to fill out and easier for town staff to process. New software is being procured that will make it possible to upload building plans online and for the plans to be analyzed online. And payments can be made online as well.

The town has posted a video explaining the improvements. It can be seen at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISjV3vXYuqI&feature=youtu.be.
