The sixth annual “Chili Day in Cutler Bay” event took place on Saturday, Jan. 10, drawing some 3,000 residents, friends, and family members throughout the course of the day.

The popular yearly event gives area chefs a chance to compete for prizes for the best chili, salsa or cornbread, and gives residents who attend a chance to try these favorite foods.

The event again took place at Cutler Ridge Park, 10100 SW 200 St., this year from 2 to 6 p.m. In addition to the food, cooking competition and activities live music was provided by local band Cutler Stew.

“Many residents loved the fact that our event started at 2 p.m. instead of the usual 11 a.m. this gave residents time to complete their errands,” said town manager Rafael Casals. “Plus, the 2 p.m. start time is a little cooler. We would like to thank everyone who turned out for the event and also thank our sponsor, Mercedes Benz of Cutler Bay.”

The winners of the Chili Cook Off competition were as follows:
Chili — Just Chillin;
Cornbread — T&W Subs & BBQ;
Salsa — Pig Floyd;
People’s Choice Award — Hialeah Fire Department, and
Best Decorated Booth — Cutler Ricken Cornbread.

The popular event is expected to return next year.
