Asolo Repertory Theatre to perform A Midsummer Night’s Dream,Oct.17

South Miami-Dade Cultural Arts Center presents Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream performed by the Asolo Repertory Theatre, an FSU/ Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training Production, presented with Shadow Interpretation on Friday, Oct. 17, at 8 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased online at SMDCAC.org or by calling the Box Office at 786-573-5300. The center is located at 10950 SW 211 St. in Cutler Bay.

In a world-premiere 60-minute adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most beloved comedies, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is a hilarious collision of young runaway lovers, adult authorities, actors and mischievous tricksters. This classic gets a playful and contemporary staging while preserving the language that has delighted audiences’ imaginations for centuries.

Shadow Interpreted Theater utilizes specially trained American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreters who perform as “shadows” during a live stage production alongside voiced actors. Shadow Actors are integrated into the performance by mirroring A Midsummer Night’s Dream voiced actors, while interpreting the character they are shadowing in ASL. In this way, all audience members can enjoy the full richness of the theater experience rather than having to watch a single interpreter located off stage, and thereby missing much of the action taking place on stage. This is a cutting-edge arts offering that makes the arts accessible, genuine and fully enriching for all audiences.
