Yunior Santana is running for Cutler Bay Town Council Seat 3.

Santan attended high school at the Instituto Bernat de Sarria (Benidorm, Spain), went to Miami Dade College where he earned his First Responder Certificate, attended Florida International University where he got a bachelor’s in Public Administration, and Miami Dade College where he earned an Associates in Arts degree.

He has worked at Direct Realty Solutions from 1997 to the present where he has been involved in multiple closings from condos to single family homes and commercial properties. He has held management and staff positions at a number of area businesses and has also assisted in local political campaigns. He has a wife and two children.

All candidates were asked the following questions:

Q. If elected, what would you do in the first 100 days?
A. 1. Accountability: Will ask the town to change the page dedicated to my seat to include the following:
(a) My salary (Benefits like Insurance, etc…), any expenses incurred by my office.
(b) A tracking of how I’m doing with my promises.
2. Increase social media presence with a two-way communication capability.
3. Spearhead a redesign the town website that will put functionality over anything else.
4. Spearhead campaign finance reform.
5. Create a Veterans Committee that will advise and make appropriate recommendations to the town council regarding issues of special interest to the veterans within the town.

Q. What motivated you to run for office?
A. “Because I believe I can help with the current disconnect and apathy the constituents have with the local government in general. I’m a firm believer that in this day and age, with the technology at our disposal, government should be On-Demand: Bringing Government to the people, on their terms. Lack of action regarding this initiative from the current representatives spearheaded my decision to run for office. Additionally, the last straw was Resolution No. 17-82 which the council agreed to award almost $1 million for drawings for a skate park that the town had not voted to be built.”

Q. Why do you think you would be the best candidate for the position?
A. “In every position I have held, I have always strived to improve the system even when ‘the wheel’ was already invented, and I’m proud of changes I have made to a multitude of companies that streamlined their procedures, thereby increasing their profit, customer service, community engagement, and reliability. The same dedication, knowledge, vision, and work ethics will be used to serve my community, and help create a town that will be the benchmark other towns will use to measure their interaction with their constituents.”
