CBBA donates much-needed paper to five area schools

Members of the Cutler Bay Business Association (CBBA) recently delivered truckloads of a much-needed item to five Cutler Bay schools.

With recent state and county educational budget cuts many area schools are having a hard time getting even some of the basic supplies they need to operate on a daily basis. Copy paper for printing schedules, forms and other information for teachers, students and parents is one of those items.

Using money raised during February’s “Taste of the Bay” festival, CBBA volunteers bought 150 cases of copy paper from the local Cutler Bay Staples Store and donated 300 reams of it to Dr. Edward L. Whigham Elementary School. Similar donations were made to Whispering Pines Elementary, Gulfstream Elementary, Bel-Aire Elementary and Cutler Ridge Elementary.Whigham Elementary principal Susan J. Lyle was greatly pleased by the gift from the CBBA.

“Our teachers sincerely appreciate the donation of copy paper from the Cutler Bay Business Association,” Lyle said. “Paper is always in short supply and this donation enables teachers to make copies for homework, enrichment, and class work. It put smiles on all the teachers’ faces.”

The annual Taste of the Bay festival brings local restaurants and residents together for a fun family-oriented event and also benefits special projects such as this one.

“The principals and teachers from all five schools were so happy to receive the paper,” said CBBA president Cyndi Rogg. “They said it was like a gift of gold.”

The CBBA is planning the third annual Taste of the Bay festival for 2013, to be held again at the Palmetto Bay Village Center on Feb. 24.

“We plan on making next year’s event even bigger and better than this year’s,” said CBBA vice president Darryl Boyette.

Free tickets for Taste of the Bay 2013 can be found on the website, www.TheTasteoftheBay.com and at local participating restaurants and businesses.
