Cutler Bay Senior High School’s Academy of Hospitality and Tourism (AOHT) Council and Shark Guides recently participated in The Taste of Education presented by Sapoznik Insurance.

The event, which took place at Marlins Park, showcased 30 gourmet delights prepared by chefs-in-training from Miami-Dade County Public School culinary programs with proceeds benefiting participating schools that vie for thousands of dollars in prizes in a competition judged by top celebrity chefs.

This annual showcase event celebrates Teach-A-Thon Teacher Champions with a Victory Party, mini-installations of a Food Forest, art exhibit, and auction. Yet another dimension with catering provided by teams from the district’s 30 culinary programs.

Teams, which competed with chefs and restaurateurs judging the entries, also garnered that all-important “hands-on” experience by preparing for and serving 500-plus party attendees.

AOHT at Cutler Bay Senior High prepares students for post-secondary education in hospitality and tourism majors as well as other courses of study that demand a strong academic foundation in social studies, business, and language arts.

Sebastian Verger, lead teacher, Academy of Hospitality and Tourism, accompanied the students at the event.
