The coming concert in the annual Chopin for All free concert series will feature young outstanding American pianist, violinist and a vocalist, Lindsay Garritson, on Sunday, Feb. 9, in a program titled “Chopin and the Music of Spain.” The 3 p.m. concert is at Granada Presbyterian Church, 950 University Dr. Coral Gables.
The Chopin for All free monthly concerts continue through May. Admission is free and no ticket is required. The recital features pianist Lindsay Garritson performing music of Granados, Albeniz and Chopin.
Garritson has performed throughout the United States and abroad since the age of 4. She has appeared as soloist with the Phoenix Symphony, Charleston Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Métropolitain (Montreal), Atlantic Classical Orchestra, Charleston Symphony, Orquestra Sinfônica Barra Mansa (Brazil), Yale Philharmonic Orchestra, European Philharmonic Orchestra (France), University City Symphony, Alton Symphony, Belleville Philharmonic, and Principia College Orchestra.
An award-winning performer, Garritson has received top prizes at the 2013 USASU Bosendorfer International Piano Competition, 2011 Montreal International Piano Competition, 2011 Yale Woolsey Concerto Competition, 2010 Mozarteum International Chopin Competition (Salzburg), Fite Family Competition, St. Louis Artist Presentation Society, Sarasota Artist Series Competition, Connecticut Music Teachers Young Artist Competition, and Music Teacher National Association’s Young Artist’s Competition.
Also an active participant at music festivals and courses worldwide, she has attended Music@Menlo’s International Program, The Steans Institute (Ravinia Festival), Prussia Cove International Musicians Seminar in England, Aspen Music Festival, International Holland Music Sessions, Orford Arts Center (Canada), International Keyboard Institute and Festival at Mannes College, International Institute for Young Musicians, Innsbrook Music Festival and School, Amalfi Coast Music Festival (Italy), Prague International Master classes, Nancy Music Festival (France), Igualada Master classes (Spain), Mozarteum International Master Classes (Austria), and Obidos International Piano Master classes (Portugal). Also an accomplished violinist, Lindsay was concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Youth Orchestra from 2003 to 2006.
Lindsay holds degrees from Principia College (BA in Music) and Yale School of Music (MM and Artist Diploma). She currently resides in New Haven, CT, and is a staff accompanist for strings at Yale School of Music.
