A large-scale project is taking place in Cutler Bay that began in October 2024 and is expected to be completed by fall of this year.
The Biscayne Bay Coastal Wetlands Restoration project is happening on SW 232nd Street by the Landfill and Water Treatment plant. Mayor Tim Meerbott and members of the Town Council visited the site over the holiday break, and a formal announcement is expected soon.
Officials stress that this is not a development project. There will be no apartments or houses built there. The county is clearing invasive trees.
Nicole Niemeyer, lead at the South Florida Water Management Departent, has posted a video explaining the project. It may be seen at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IyCRpLqopAg&t=992s.
Residents may check for updates on the town website at https://www.cutlerbay-fl.gov/.
