Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez welcomes opening of new mountain biking trails at Virginia Key

Miami-Dade County, FL – Mountain bikers have a new home on Virginia Key with the grand opening of a biking trail, located at the end of Arthur Lamb Road past Virginia Key Beach. Commissioner Carlos A. Gimenez, an advocate for more pedestrian- and biker-friendly areas in Miami-Dade County, participated in the grand opening on Sunday, February 20, 2011 and presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the park’s supporters: Mary Jane Mark of Mack Cycle, Collin Worth of City of Miami, John Voss of Virginia Key Bike Club, Dario Perez and “Frenchy” Riviere.

Admission to the park is free, although there is a $5 fee for parking a vehicle at the entrance of Virginia Key Beach Park. The bike trails, which are rated from beginner to advanced, are open every day from 8 a.m. to sundown. Bicycle helmets are mandatory for all riders.
