Miami-Dade Commissioner Lynda Bell brought some movie magic to more than 350 South Dade families on Friday, Sept. 14, by treating them to a free screening of Universal Pictures adaption of Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax during her “Back-to-School Movie Night and Resource Fair” at the Charter School at Waterstone in Homestead.
In addition to the film, free cotton candy, popcorn and refreshments were provided in a family-friendly atmosphere.
Families also were able to participate in a resource fair where they received free services and invaluable information from participating community organizations and institutions.
“I am delighted to have had the opportunity to host this free movie night and resource fair where families had the chance to establish new and lasting friendships, as well as build a sense of community among local residents,” Commissioner Bell said.
“I am also gratified that these families were able to benefit from our local resource fair to obtain free services and gather invaluable information intended to enrich their lives and that of their children. I look forward to hosting many similar events like these in the months and years ahead.”
Many community organizations and institutions participated in the resource fair, including: Girls Scouts Tropical Council of Florida; Miami-Dade Public Library System; Florida Heiken Children’s Vision Program at the Miami Lighthouse for the Blind; Parent Teacher Student Organization at Charter School at Waterstone; New York Life Child ID Program; National Karate Academy; Belly Dancing by Shayna; City of Homestead Education Committee; Banyan Street Community Center, and Robeks Fruit Smoothies.
