The Concerned Citizens of Cutler Bay (CCCB) meeting on Sept. 1 featured a discussion of the town’s budget and how it will affect property taxes. Cutler Bay town manager Ralph Casals was the featured guest speaker.
The meeting took place at the Cornerstone Church, formerly the Cutler Ridge United Methodist Church, located at 20740 Old Cutler Rd. The town council’s budget hearings are in September and the CCCB gathering attracted residents and a few business owners.
“During the meeting, I provided the members an overview of the proposed Fiscal Year 2015-16 town budget, similar to my Cutler Bay Business Association presentation,” Casals said. “After my presentation, the meeting turned into a smaller version of ‘Open Mic’ night.”
Steve Zarzecki, CCCB president and meeting organizer, was pleased with the turnout and the speaker.
“The meeting went very well,” Zarzecki said. “Attendance was good — about 40 citizens. Mr. Casals’ talk was informative and interesting. The question and answer period was even better — intelligent questions and suggestions, and full and accurate answers from the manager.
“Mayor [Peggy] Bell was in attendance, and participated in the discussion, as did Vice Mayor [Ernie] Sochin. We are indeed fortunate to have Ralph Casals as our town manager. He brings a citizenfriendly style to our town.”
