Students “visit” such tourist destinations as Paris, Mexico and Hawaii.

More than 300 students at Cutler Bay Senior High School learned about domestic and international travel destinations during a Thursday, Apr. 9, “Teen Travel Fair 2015,” staged in the school’s library.

The event was produced by students of the school’s Travel and Tourism class, part of Cambridge International affiliated with the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom.

The class of about 35 students worked in teams to create travel booths that promoted such domestic destinations as the Florida Keys and international vacation venues such as Fiji, Greece, Australia and even Cuba.

The school year-long travel and tourism class focuses on the business of travel with the course covering such aspects as staff training, customer service and marketing.

Students who participated in the travel fair and pass a final written examination will receive three college credits.

Most of the class attended the mid- March Cruise Shipping Miami exhibition on Miami Beach to understand the workings of a real travel trade show as well as to garner more knowledge on the cruise industry.

“The students did a great job and their presentations were professional and informative,” said Cutler Bay High educator Maria Newman.

“No doubt their visit to Cruise Shipping Miami was invaluable to provide them ideas to create their own booths.”
