The Town and Country Garden Club recently recognized the Town of Cutler Bay with a special award in honor of the town’s efforts in beautifying Old Cutler Road. That project, which lasted a number of months, not only consisted of major street improvements such as repaving, new sidewalks, bike paths and many other enhancements, it also included the addition of many trees, shrubs and garden areas which greened up the historic route and made it prettier, too. Councilwoman Peggy Bell attended their meeting and accepted the award, a distinctive plaque, on behalf of the Mayor and Council. Bell said she was honored to be there and appreciated the recognition given to Cutler Bay by the group.
Founded in April of 1956, the Town and Country Garden Club is comprised of 23 members from all over Miami-Dade county, but most are from Cutler Bay and Palmetto Bay. The current president at the time of the award was Debbie Smith, but the new incoming president will be Anneta Shildbach. Master Plan… The Town launched its series of town hall style public meetings to allow residents to participate in the development of an update to Cutler Bay’s 2006-11 Strategic
Master Plan. The first meetings took place on Monday, June 2 at HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital Café, on June 4 in the Town Hall Penthouse Suite and on Monday, June 9 at the East Ridge Retirement Village Auditorium. You still have a chance to attend a meeting, though, since the last remaining meeting will take place on Monday, June 16, 7:00 p.m. at Cutler Ridge Park, 10100 SW 200 Street.
Town leaders want your input on the town’s mission, highest service priorities, and “vision” for the years to come. Even if you can’t make the last meeting, they are still inviting you to participate by responding to the following questions:
1. Please list three-to-five (3-5) of the most vital ongoing services that the Town should provide with uncompromising excellence in order to meet your most important needs.
2. In your opinion, what should the Town of Cutler Bay’s government be in business to do? (In other words, what should our mission be?)
3. Please state in one or two sentences how you would like the Town of Cutler Bay to be described five (5) years from now. Please mail responses to Town Hall at 10720 Caribbean Blvd., Ste. 105, Cutler Bay, Florida 33189 or send via fax to 305-234-4251. You may also email your responses to info@cutlerbay-fl.gov.
Please include your name and address. Your responses will be added to the results of the “Town Hall” meetings.
Mark your calendar… the next regular Cutler Bay Town Council Meeting is on Wednesday, June 18 (they always have them every third Wednesday of the month). It will take place in the usual location, the Town Council Chambers at 10720 Caribbean Boulevard. We’re not sure what’s on the agenda as of deadline time for this issue, but if you have any questions regarding the meeting you may contact Town Clerk Debra Eastman by calling 305-234-4262 and asking for her.
Splish splash… Just a reminder from the Parks & Recreation Department: Cutler Ridge Pool’s summer hours and swim lessons began on June 9 and run through August 15. Registration for swim lessons will be Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on a first come first serve basis. As we noted before, with so many canals and waterways in South Florida and the bay nearby, learning to swim is essential for youngsters (and adults, too if they don’t know how!), so don’t delay. For info call Parks & Recreation at 305-238-4166.
