The Town of Cutler Bay hosts many popular outdoor events each year, with the food-related gatherings being among the most popular.
The annual Chili Cook-off is no exception, with spicy hot chili offered to offset the cooler winter temperatures and a competition between rival teams, both professional and amateur, to further heat up things. Maria Herrera-Mendoza, Events and Programs manager, again is organizing the foody festival.
“Join us for our 16th annual Chili Cook-off on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at Cutler Ridge Park Herrera-Mendoza said. “The Cook-off is open to everyone and we will have three divisions — Amateurs, Restaurants, and Firehouses.”
Event highlights include free chili, salsa, and cornbread samples from the competing chefs, while supplies last; food trucks offering many other types of food and beverages for sale; live music by hometown band Cutler Stew, and a “Kids Zone” with face painters, inflatables to play in and on, and balloon artists twisting balloons into cute objects for entertaining fun. There also will be a video game bus with an assortment of popular electronic games.
For those looking to compete in the Cook-off, the categories are Chili, Salsa and Cornbread.
Cash prizes and special trophies will be awarded in all three categories as well as for “Best Decorated Booth” and “People’s Choice.”
Although bragging rights are often the main goal, the cash prizes are no small beans either.
