Parents and children seeking a safer alternative to trick or treating on dark neighborhood streets should find a popular yearly area event to their liking when the annual Haunted House returns to Cutler Ridge Park on Saturday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 9 p.m.
“This is a many year tradition,” said town Parks and Recreation director Alan Ricke. “It’s been going on since before the town became a town, probably for 30 years. This will be the town’s fifth time doing it. It’s run by the park staff and some volunteers. We get high school kids to help out who do it for community service hours.”
Besides the Haunted House there will be a Halloween costume contest that in past years has brought out clever outfits by both children and adults. There will be food for sale, with snow cones and the Cutler Ridge Soccer Club opening its concession stand with hot dogs, hamburgers and sodas available.
“Track or Treat,” the “Spider Egg Hunt” and other fun features will return as well, along with something different.
“Track or Treat will have kids walking around the pathway that circles the ball field and we’ll have businesses there giving out candy so it’s a safe trick or treat place,” Ricke said. “We’ll have the Spider Egg Hunt, with 2,000 candy-filled eggs. It’ll be kind of like an Easter egg hunt, but we’re calling them spider eggs. We’re adding an event that’s called “Scaryoke” — you know, scary karaoke. That’ll be new this year.”
Cutler Ridge Park is located at 10100 SW 200 St. For information, call the Parks and Recreation Department at 305-238-4166.
